Hia folks.
So, as you may have noticed or not, Xmas coming soon. If by any reason you’re asking yourselfs “Oh, how did she noticed?” Well, it’s because I spend two minutes in front of TV. Don’t get me wrong for what I am about to say – I find Xmas a really pleasent time and I love to be with my family in the time. But I sure have to take this out. And I am sure you’ve read this before somewhere:
* It seems nowadays kids don’t even know what Xmas is about. They eat fine food and gets toys. Hurray, that’s Xmas for them. When I was young, my parents had this bit of a fight – would they tell me it was Santa giving me the gifts or Baby Jesus? Well, I personally did not believe it was none of them, but at least that made me know people celebrate Jesus B-day and they call it Xmas. Though I am pretty sure there’s no way Jesus could be born in that specific day. And if he did, how would we know?
* Xmas has nothing to do with Religion now. They call it “the universal holliday”, but they should call it “the commercial Holliday”. It’s about buying, no? It’s no longer about trading, it’s about buying. You buy something to the other guy, he/she buys for you. If you don’t, you don’t get anything back. If the gift you got was cheaper than the one you bought, oh no, it’s a war. It’s about buying buying buying. Nothing more.
* Commercials: They used to start in December. Now they’re aired in October. I wonder when Xmas is being moved to August.
* It doesn’t snow here. But Xmas cannot be Xmas without snow, riiight? So they got the artificial snow. How’s it done in Brazil? I heard it’s summer there.
* It’s a commercial strategy! They put Xmas signs in stores and make them look cute and charming, but we all know the prices won’t go down before January. Still, we go there and buy.
* Portugal is crossing a crisis period, just like everyone else’s country. Still, we’re always spending more money in Xmas stuff to make our house shine more than next door’s.
* I love Xmas.
* Though I love Xmas, do not expect me to leave my town to go to the big city just to see the Xmas lights. My Xmas tree has lots of them already, thank you. The more people who go watch the lights, the more lights will be there next year. Some call it “Xmas spirit”. I call it “energy waste”.
And I could spend the rest of my day adding stuff to this list, but I won’t. You know why? Because there are still people who think of this season as one to help the others, to give without asking in return, thinking about it as more then a beauty contest. Xmas could be like any other day to me, but it isn’t. Why? I get the chance to be with my family, to celebrate something with them, to talk and laugh. Maybe it’s just like any other holliday. But with more propaganda.
And I said it. Anyways, I am making some special Xmas improvements to the site. But what for, if I am not getting anything in return?
…Ah… Because I like to draw.
Feliz Natal :D
