Just like Politics, every new school year there’s the Rentrée. And the same music repeats:
Sophomores from all the courses gather around, hunting freshmen as if they’ve been commissioned to do so
These Sophomores are, truly, the older students’ Yesman. And they quite deserve it – at least for acting the way they do – and I’m not feeling sorry for them anytime soon. But as I was saying, they wait on the most common passage places, waiting for the freshmen to cross their paths, just as if they were hunting – and places no one could avoid without knowing the ground; or places where presence is required, like the Academic Services. Waiting so they can take those innocent younglings (who might be older, but anyway…) to meet their fate alongside the older students and be initiated into the Praxe (I’ll call it Praxe and not Pledge because I’m feeling they’re not the same thing and I don’t want to mix stuff).
Well, I quite understand the excitement of such Sophomores – it’s one of the first times they’re able to do something for the Praxe they’re a part of and probably the first they’re above someone, according to the Praxe’s ranks. But there’s no need to be so full of themselves – “you, look down, I’m in charge here”, when in fact they’re just on their second year and therefore they barely know what the Praxe really is. Don’t take me wrong, but there are many people out there who only put the Academic Suit on to make the Students look even worse on the eyes of the outside society. I have to confess I’m what’s usually labeled as an Anti-Praxe – even though such label couldn’t be less fitting, since I’m not against it at all, quite the contrary actually – I just happened to say No to the Praxe I had to take and stay out of it. But going on with the point I was trying to make, the prepotent behavior of these Sophomores is kinda saddening sometimes, the very same Sophomores who’re just being nice because they have been told to – so the Freshmen will easily trust them and follow them. What do these kids know about the Praxe? Well, not much it seems, but who am I to talk? I’m away from all the praxistic community around here, so my point may actually stand on… Untrue facts.
On another note, no matter for how many years I study on that House, people won’t change and so won’t behaviours: and I’ll be mistaken as a freshman again and they’ll once more ask me “What are you attending? Has someone taken care of you?” and I’ll have to do my trollface while replying:
“I’m on my last year 8D”
Which is kinda funny since I’m studying for a longer period and therefore I should be above them, but it’s like we’re from totally different worlds. Next Monday I’ll just write on my forehead that I’m on my third College year and see if I’m no longer asked such foolish question – because it may seem nice to be taken as younger, but they’d almost drag me into the Praxe again, like they did last year, and I’m not really feeling like it.
I’ll just have fun with observing. Today, in spite of the rain, you could year the freshmen sing Informatics, Informatics, and I’m sorry that they don’t even know what that is.
Not that I know.
At least I’ll stay with the impression I’ll be on High School forever. Or High School student looking.
